How does Tarot help in psychic development? - By: Jacqui Emmett
I was given my first Tarot deck many years ago as a gift from a lovely lady who was moving to Egypt. She gave them to me all wrapped in black cloth and with trepidation I took them, thinking what a strange gift to impart me with. I placed them in the back of a cupboard and didn’t pay them much attention till a couple of years later. Even though I had moved myself a few times, I never found it in me to get rid of those strange looking cards. There was something about them I couldn't put my finger on and one day during my searches and stumbling around the internet I came across a site all about the Tarot.
It was then I dug out my deck of cards and had a proper look at them, and even though Id read they were not anything harmful I didn’t really connect with the pictures they had on them. I went off to a shop then to buy my own deck and looking at the various images on the huge array of decks available, I settled for a classic Rider-Waite deck. I had read somewhere that you should never buy your own deck, and that they should be gifted to you... but who was going to buy me Tarots cards for Christmas? I followed my intuition and put this down to 'stuff and nonsense' and do respect that some do follow this rule, while others like me do not. Follow your 'gut feeling' and don’t make things too complicated for yourself. I got stuck into learning all the different meanings for the cards and patted myself on the back for research well done!
When I then ventured to another site, I was surprised to find different meanings for them, and yet another site would give other meanings. I also purchased a reassuringly expensive book all about the Tarot and yes, you guessed it, was met with different meanings again. This led me to believe that there are no 'set' meanings... to the cards at all. They each had a 'base' meaning which was consistent, but the 'key words' for each card would vary greatly depending on where you got your learning information. The Major Arcana were most consistent, but the Minor Arcana or 'pip' cards seemed open to wider and varied interpretation. Even so, it was not a case of memorising word for word what they should be, but gleaning the most basic interpretation and looking at the cards and 'feeling' what you also think they mean. This I found to be the best method of all, and after writing down the main agreed meaning I would add underneath my own personal feelings about each card. It was a long process doing this by hand, but this effort made it easier to remember them. I found I sort of 'bonded' with them as I thought long and hard about what I personally felt they meant from studying the imagery presented.
A well known tip is to take a 'card a day' and think upon that card and analyse what you feel it could mean, what to you it does mean, and how you could apply it in a storyline of a reading. I was too impatient for this method.. that meant 78 days before I even got started! I did a few a day, writing away in my own Tarot interpretation book (a budget hard back lecture book) and also printed out and pasted little pictures of each card for each page. It was almost like 'scrapbooking' for Tarot and having had a few years making hand crafted cards in my time, I liked my own unconventional way of learning the Tarot. Sometimes too, I would idly be doing something else and an idea would pop into my head about the previous days cards, or even one from the week before and I would go and write it down and add to my own summary of meanings on the relevant page. In a couple of weeks, and with many hours studying each day, I had bonded very well with my own deck, and the images they presented. I had added my own meanings, pondered and reflected on them and even did some practice spreads to see where and how they fitted into the story. Ever heard of speed dating? Well this was speed Tarot and it worked!"
* (Please note that this worked for me, and is only my personal experience of how I found Tarot useful in connecting to my other abilities. I do not make light of those who have spent years learning and perfecting their skill with Tarot. I have the utmost admiration and respect for their dedication.)
My nervous first few attempts were a success, but luckily I had a good sense of humour to treat it all lightly and put everyone I practiced on at ease as well. What I didnt expect was the accuracy the cards gave and each and every time I received praise and admiration for my efforts. Also I didnt realise that as I became more confident and competant, I would find myself talking more and more and going with my intuition of the overall assessment as well. Sometimes after reading the general spread I would get a (clairsentience) 'feeling' that there was something more to be said. I would often ramble and repeat myself as I trusted this feeling and waited for a sign of what it could possibly be. In desperation I asked in my mind "spirit guide (I didnt know my guides name back then) please let me know what else I should say for this person that would benefit their reading?" All of a sudden my clairvoyance kicked in and I had a flash of 3 pictures one after the other in my minds eye. I was completely confused now, as I thought these were two seperate skills that I could do, but I went with the flow and told the client before me that I had recieved the images of this, that and the other.
I also expanded on them and used my clairsentience to get the feel of what the symbolic images were trying to convey. An example is; I once saw a box of chocolates and told the lady client, then I could smell them and they smelt yummy and with an almost craving feeling. Then I would feel sick and wish I hadnt had them, and I knew they were not good for me at all. The lady wept as she told me of her husband who for 15 years had been wasting away with Huntington's disease. He no longer recognised her and craved chocolates enormously and would get up to all sorts of antics to have his sweets and choccies, but this was not allowed as they made him violently sick. This was for her validation of things I could not have possibly known, and also the other images gave her meaning to answers she was seeking. I shall never forget that first experience and now can with help from my spirit guides tune in without even using the Tarot, although for me as you have read, it was a very useful tool to make that initial connection.
I cannot praise it highly enough, as a tool for those wishing to develop clairvoyance where imagery is the main receptor in receiving information from spirit. It is a very useful psychic tool in itself and with deeper studying you can obtain valuable and accurate psychic readings from Tarot alone. For me it was a stepping stone in developing my mediumship. All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. There is a difference, and so there is a different point of view about the Tarot depending from where you are standing. Some gifted mediums do not bother with it at all, and have the ability to make a connection to spirit from the outset. Others like myself were not sure of their abilities at first, and only acknowledged they may perhaps be psychic. I do feel however that we are all capable of developing mediumship and it is not limited to the 'lucky few'. Tarot is an excellent way to explore and develop your potential.
I hope this has been helpful in understanding beyond the books and websites on Tarot meanings. Try it for yourself and keep practicing. You may find other gifts may come to the fore and you will be amazed at what you can do. Eventually you will ditch the books and be able to read intuitively the message within the cards, and possibly with the help of your 'spirit guides' develop a connection to begin your mediumship work.

testimonial from James MacGee
James has been kind enough to write a testimonial for me and I am very greatful for that. Here is what he wrote:
Jacqui gave me a reading which absolutely blew me away. With little
more than a photograph and a brief meeting (during which I divulged no personal
information), Jacqui was able to accurately describe my childhood (including my
life-long best friend!), my attitudes towards life (with very vivid and accurate
imagery), and even my parent's wedding anniversary that was only a week
away. I am absolutely amazed at her talents!

Hello and Welcome to my blog
I am Jacqui Emmett.
I am glad youve found my page, as maybe you have found this site for a reason.
I am a simple and honest caring person, nothing out of the ordinary, and yet I am able to 'tune in' and give what I call 'psychic counselling' to people that are seeking direction.
I have raised five children, have three grandchildren, and over the years have experienced the joys and woes that my path has taken me. Im down to earth and can say 'Ive got the T.shirt' on most things. There is not alot that will phase me now, and it is maybe with these life challenges and blessings that I have recieved that I can provide not only insight, but genuine compassion and understanding as well.
I do this through my readings, which are obtained mostly clairvoyantly. Through recommendation and pressure to be available to more people, I have now with the help of a dear friend set up this website to offer my services.
For those with a burning curiosity of who I am, I will adding more to my profile soon. For those with a need to know the 'mechanics' of what I do, I will try to explain the best I can from my own experiences. And for those who want hard proof that Im genuine, then I will be adding some 'testimonials' to that page.
I will also endeavour to add useful links to sites that I can recommend on this subject, and will start some interesting 'blog' topics for those who like to add their own opinions and comments. I hope that together we can make this site interesting, informative, and offer a service that is fulfilling and gives some guidance to those in need.
My work is not a mystery, and I will try to answer questions that may start your own psychic development, so you may explore your own gifts and connect to your inner self and understand the path you yourself are walking.
We are all Universally connected, so I know that together we can bring light into this age of seeking and through understanding can one day bring about a united, connected peace amongst us while we walk as mere humans on this Earth. Together we can make a difference. Let's 'pay it forward' and grow into the beautiful souls were are all destined to be with love amongst us all. I thank you all.
WHAT IS A DISTANT READING?
WHAT IS A DISTANT READING?
A distant reading is precisely that... reading for someone from a distance. In other words you don't have to be in my presence to receive a reading! I have found I do not have to be with someone in person as we are ALL Universally connected spiritually and I am able to 'tune in' to someone long distance and still give a good reading for them.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
I am able to do this with the help of my spirit guides, and quite simply my guides connect with your guides (we all have them whether we're aware of it or not) and then information is passed to me through various methods, and so I am able to write out your reading for you. Every one of my 'readings' are personally typed out by me and sent via email to you. They are not computer generated nor standardised to suit all.
WHAT WILL HAVING A READING DO FOR ME?
Having a reading can shed alot of light on your current situation, provide choices you can make, paths you can take, and insight into your 'higher self'. It can give clarification of what you probably already know, in other words a second opinion, or provide new direction when we are at a crossroads in our lives.
CAN YOU TELL ME MY FUTURE?
Quite simply No. The future has not happened yet... so it is not 'set in stone'. What I can do is tell you choices available that will help you to 'look to the future' and 'probable' outcomes if you pursue a certain direction. You have free will at all times and free choice in all things.
Your spiritual path or journey is your own and no one can tell you which path you should take. What I can offer is insight and guidance to make wise choices.
The rest is up to you.
Blessings be!
Jacqui Emmett
